On and off the ice, it takes teamwork to get the job done. The Richmond Ravens' 21st annual Ice Classic Female Hockey Tournament was proof of that.

The tournament itself, held last weekend at the Richmond Ice Centre, was made possible by the efforts of a dedicated team of volunteers, led by Bal Grewal. Then a host of local businesses stepped up to lend their support.

Finally, on the ice the tournament participants demonstrated the commitment and sportsmanship that the Ravens, as an association, continually promote.

The Ice Classic played host to recreation teams at the Initiation, Novice Cross-Ice, Atom, Peewee, Bantam and Midget levels from across Western Canada and the United States.

Richmond Midget C1 earned top marks in their division, winning all three pool games while not allowing a goal against. They then secured the playoff banner with a 2-0 win over Vancouver, after blanking Washington 3-0 in the semifinal game.

Richmond Bantam C1 also played in the division and placed second with a pair of pool wins.

Tri Port, representing Port McNeill, built upon a second-place finish in pool play to win the Midget C2/3 Division playoff final 6-0 over Nanaimo.

Seattle Black blanked Campbell River 2-0 to cap an undefeated record in the Bantam C2/3 Division, while Seattle Royal edged Yukon 7-6 to win the Peewee C2 Division. The Royal were undefeated in five games.

Campbell River took top honours in the Peewee C3 Division as they edged Seattle White 5-3 in the playoff final, while Seattle Royal added the Atom C2 Division title with a 6-0 win over Washington in the playoff final. Vancouver C3 doubled Peninsula 2-1 in the Atom C3 playoff final.

The players of tomorrow also took to the Ice Classic stage. Richmond iced three teams in the Novice Division, and two in the Tyke Division.
