A 76-year-old Richmond woman suffered serious injuries Tuesday afternoon when she was struck by an SUV at No. 3 Road and Blundell.
The pedestrian was rushed to hospital and is in stable condition, and the driver of the SUV remained at the scene and was cooperating with investigators.
Richmond Mounties were called to the scene around 4:30 p.m. by a call that a pedestrian had been struck.
The driver of the SUV, an 84-year-old man also from Richmond, was shaken, police said.
“This area had a fair amount of traffic congestion at the time, which was around 4:30 p.m. We have largely eliminated speed or alcohol as factors in this collision,” RCMP Cpl. Dennis Hwang said. “We are investigating all factors and that includes pedestrian crossing behaviour.”
Though there’s now more daylight, Hwang said both pedestrians and drivers need to remain cautious while navigating the city’s roads.
“Be defensive and pause before taking unnecessary chances,” Hwang said.
