Richmond RCMP are investigating an alleged assault about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the corner of Bayview and No. 1 Rd. in Steveston.

A witness at the scene said two groups had walked past each other. Then as one group continued to the crosswalk, witness Dan Chaboyer said a man followed the group. He was shouting and waving a walking stick.

“The guy flipped out,” said Chaboyer, who was sitting in his truck at the Department of Fisheries and Oceans parking lot.

Chaboyer said the stick swinging progressed to hitting. A man, who was part of the group, grabbed the stick as he was getting hit and the two ended up on the ground.

Chaboyer said the man with the stick had shouted about, “an incident two years ago. Old history.”

The alleged victim showed the RCMP the injured spots on his body and a woman with his group said they were waiting for an ambulance.
