A pair of animal traps were found Monday in Steveston by Erin Lee as she was walking her dog around 11 a.m.
The traps were found on the south side of Moncton Street, in a patch of green space between townhouses and across the street from the Steveston Community Police Station and Steveston Community Centre.
“This is very concerning. I believe traps like this are illegal. Furthermore, they were in an area where children, adults and pets walk,” Lee told The Richmond Sentinel.
Lee said she contacted Richmond RCMP who removed the traps a few hours later.
“We’re shocked that someone would leave something like this on private property,” said RCMP Cpl. Dennis Hwang.
One of the traps had to be disarmed, and the other wasn’t armed, Hwang said. Both were seized by police, who are continuing to investigate.
Anyone with information about the animal traps is asked to call the Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212 and refer to report number: RI18-32431.
