Man, 70, struck Monday afternoon at Williams and Railway

A male pedestrian, 70, was struck Monday around 2 p.m. at Railway Avenue and Williams Road, while crossing the street at the crosswalk, according to a witness.

A pedestrian in his 70s who was struck by a Volkswagen SUV at the intersection of Railway and Williams Road Monday mid-afternoon suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The man, who was in the crosswalk around 2 p.m., had according to a witness nearly finished crossing the street when he was struck by the Volkswagen which was making a right turn.

The victim was knocked to the ground but did not lose consciousness.

Good Samaritans attended to the man after 911 was called, and waited with him until emergency crews arrived.

The victim, who said he was in his 70s, said he thought he had bumped his head, and suffered injuries to his left side, hip and shoulder.

He was taken by ambulance to hospital while Richmond RCMP spoke to the driver, who remained on scene and was cooperative.

According to a witness, the Volkswagen SUV and another vehicle may have had dashcam footage of the incident.
