There was plenty of celebrating and smiles Wednesday morning when Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives hosted a thank-you breakfast for those who helped support the Richmond Christmas Fund.
The breakfast was provided courtesy the generosity of River Rock Casino Resort, which also provided a large room in their resort-style complex in North Richmond for the roughly 100 guests.
Ed Gavsie, head of Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives, recognized the many people, businesses and groups in the community who really went above and beyond to make a difference in the lives of those who needed an extra hand during Christmas.
It was a record-shattering fundraising year, which enabled the Christmas Fund to help nearly 2,400 people, including nearly 800 children, more than 200 teenagers and nearly 350 seniors.
While there were plenty of big fundraisers, including Richmond Auto Mall’s Windows of Hope campaign, and the Not So Silent Night event hosted by Audi Richmond, there were other noteworthy smaller donations, including one by Kaye Banez from Bammstella Creations. Through the sale of the book See Yah in the Morning! A Bedtime Story, Banez and her family, including daughter Estella and son Lazarus, donated $200 to the Christmas Fund, and were invited to this week’s thank-you breakfast. Banez thanked VanCity’s branch at Blundell Centre for featuring the family’s fundraising efforts.
