Chan was a world champion and five-time Paralympian, a strong promoter of his sport and supporter of his fellow athletes.

Wheelchair Canada described him as “a consummate professional whose on-court accolades were only surpassed by his impact off the court.”

“His impact on the wheelchair rugby community is truly immeasurable and he leaves behind a legacy of excellence and compassion that many can aspire to.”

Chan was the focus of the documentary “Can’t Stop/Won’t Stop” which centered on Team Canada’s work ethic on their journey to the 2008 Beijing Games. He also appeared in the documentary “Murderball.”

Chan was also a multiple winner at the Richmond Sports Awards.
