Remember the story of the tortoise and hare? Like the tortoise in one of Aesop’s Fables, sometimes steady wins out.
For the Richmond Sockeyes, Tuesday was such a night.
Down two games to none in their best-of-seven Pacific Junior Hockey League playoff semifinal to the Delta Ice Hawks, the Richmond Sockeyes refused to veer off course. And they finally caught a break.
Arjun Badh, consistently one of their steadiest players in each of the past three seasons, scored both goals in a 2-1 win over the Hawks at Ladner Leisure Centre. He opened the scoring on a first period powerplay tally at 14:13 and then, with the score tied at one, notched the winner, again on the powerplay, at 18:41 of the second period.
The teams resume the Tom Shaw Conference final series Thursday at 7 p.m. at Richmond’s Minoru Arenas, with Game 5 scheduled back in Ladner Sunday at 7:30 p.m. Game 6, if needed, is set for Minoru at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
