A Richmond Mountie suffered non-life threatening injuries after being struck by a 2005 Audi sedan as it fled police while avoiding a distracted-driving stop Monday afternoon.

Around 3:30 p.m., Richmond RCMP were conducting the distracted driving enforcement along No. 3 Road when an officer tried to stop a vehicle near No. 3 Road and Alderbridge Way after the driver was seen allegedly using a mobile device while driving.

The Audi initially stopped for police, but then abruptly turned and headed east on Alderbridge Way, striking the officer.

The officer was taken to hospital by ambulance.

The Audi struck a police vehicle near Alderbridge and Shell after attempts were made to stop it.

The Audi, described as a brown 2005 four-door, then struck a second vehicle driven by a civilian before fleeing the area.

The vehicle was last seen heading north on Garden City towards Sea Island Way.

The police vehicle was heavily damaged while damage to the civilian's vehicle was minor.

The badly-damaged Audi was found abandoned by police on the 7000 block of Heather Street in Vancouver around 10:30 p.m.
