Created by Richmond’s Perry Ehrlich, Gotta Sing! Gotta Dance! is returning for its 28th summer.

The musical theatre camp takes place at the Jewish Community Centre of Greater Vancouver and welcomes those aged nine to 19 who love to sing, dance, act, and perform.

The camp will proceed with its usual format: two sessions of 18 days each, followed by a show. This year’s show, Wild Wild West Side Story, will be presented three times each session and feature an original script and broad repertoire of music from Broadway, movie musicals, and the world of pop.

Gotta Sing! Gotta Dance! focuses on all aspects of musical theatre including vocal technique, the craft of acting, choreography, set construction, make-up, and costuming. Participants will be divided into groups based on age and ability. The camp is designed to encourage talent, discipline, self-esteem, and co-operation.

The session dates are July 5 to 28 and Aug. 2 to 25. Camps take place on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The application deadline is April 1. Each session costs $850 for members or $950 for non-members, and includes a video, custom-designed T-shirt, and two tickets to see any show.

Auditions may be scheduled to assess talent and maturity. Final selections will be based on ability and commitment.

A deposit of $50 is required upon application, with full payment due immediately upon acceptance into the camp. Scholarships for those with financial need are available through sources like the Babe Oreck Memorial Fund and Phyliss & Irving Snider Foundation.
