Commuters and travellers along No. 3 Road can now enjoy a new art exhibition near the Aberdeen and Lansdowne Canada Line stations.

The work of Richmond artists Bernadette C De Jesus, Susan Viccars, and Yanqun Xue can be seen in the large, backlit display cases at the base of three concrete support columns from now until July 31, 2023. This exhibition is the first of a two-part, year-long showcase by artists who have created work celebrating Richmond’s local culture, history, and natural heritage.

Bernadette C De Jesus’s series of ink drawings at Lansdowne station represents Richmond’s interconnected communities and the resources they share in everyday life. Individual joys, challenges, and flows of emotion are symbolized in the touch of lines and vibrant colours.

Yanqun Xue’s paintings, also at Lansdowne station, are inspired by nostalgic memories of his hometown and the experience of newcomers arriving in this beautiful place to build new dreams.

Susan Viccars’s series of paintings at Aberdeen station highlight Richmond’s heritage homes. Such vignettes of farm and fishing life have largely disappeared as many search for a sense of place in a rapidly changing city.

The second exhibition this year will feature works by artists Cherry Archer, Sam McWilliams, and Sol Ross from Aug. 1 through Jan. 31, 2024.

The No. 3 Road Art Columns Program was launched in 2010 as part of the city’s commitment to enhance the No. 3 Road streetscape, in partnership with the Appia Group of Companies and InTransit BC. Since then, the program has featured the work of dozens of local artists with rotating exhibitions that change twice a year.
