Dancers and dance lovers of all ages and abilities are invited to celebrate International Dance Day on April 29 by taking part in Richmond’s online Grand Plié.
Visit www.facebook.com/Richmondartscentre and join others for this free at-home class hosted by Richmond Arts Centre from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m.
This year’s Grand Plié will be led by longtime Richmond Arts Centre ballet instructor Katherine Somody. She will lead a mini Ballet Barre class that can be enjoyed from home without special shoes or props.
Grand Plié participants are also invited to take part in the Grand Plié Selfie Challenge by sharing photos of their participation on the social media platform(s) of their choice and using the hashtag #RichmondConnects.
International Dance Day was founded in 1982 and marks the April 29 birthday of Jean-Georges Noverre (1717-1810), the creator of modern ballet. The Richmond Arts Centre began participating in this event six years ago with the creation of the Grand Plié that is scheduled on, or as close to, the official day as possible.
