Motorists are being advised that the George Massey Tunnel will be fully closed overnight on two consecutive nights beginning Friday, June 5, 2026, to allow for maintenance work to take place.
According to a release from the official website of the Government of British Columbia, the temporary closures are necessary so that contractors for the Ministry of Transportation and Transit can complete essential maintenance inside the tunnel in both the northbound and southbound directions.
The tunnel will be closed during the following periods:
- From 10 p.m. on Friday, June 5, until 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 6.
- From 10 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, until 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 7.
All northbound and southbound lanes through the tunnel will be unavailable during the closures. Drivers are encouraged to use the Alex Fraser Bridge as an alternate route and monitor DriveBC for current traffic information.
Emergency-service vehicles and transit vehicles will continue to be accommodated while the closures are in effect.
Drivers are also reminded to follow posted speed limits, watch for traffic-control personnel and obey all signage in the area.
