For more than a quarter century, Gotta Sing! Gotta Dance! has been a staple in the performing arts community.

Created by Richmond’s Perry Ehrlich, the intensive musical theatre camps offers youngsters nine to 19 the opportunity to build on their love of singing, dancing, acting and performing.

“Putting together a musical theatre camp during these crazy COVID times has been a challenge, but I personally have been energized and overwhelmed by the public support and appreciation,’ says Ehrlich. “We are thrilled with the number of applications—over 110—that we have received to date. This will be our 27th year at the Jewish Community Centre of Greater Vancouver, and I cannot wait.”

While enrollment is limited due to COVID restrictions, Ehrlich says there are still a few spaces. To learn more call 604-257-5111.

The intensive camp focuses on all aspects of musical theatre, including vocal technique, the craft of acting, and choreography. Participants are divided into groups based on age and ability, with each two-week session unique.

Many graduates of Gotta Sing! Gotta Dance! have gone on to successful careers in the performing arts, from within the province of British Columbia to New York, California, and even Austria and Israel.

Ehrlich, who received an Ovation Award and the Canadian Bar Association's Community Service Award (acknowledging his tireless dedication to working with children and musical theatre) is a composer, pianist, teacher, arranger, producer, adjudicator, writer, and talent coordinator, also directs ShowStoppers, the popular performance troupe. This year, Perry has assembled an impressive faculty of professional instructors (including directors, musicians, choreographers, and actors), each working in his or her respective field including musical director Wendy Bross Stuart; director Chris McGregor; and choreographers Jason Franco, Meghan Anderssen, and Keri Minty.

Scholarships are available through the generosity of the Babe Oreck Memorial Fund, Phyliss & Irving Snider Foundation, and others for those needing financial assistance.
