High tea and high art blend for a fine time

The Richmond Art Gallery was filled with fascinators, vintage tea cups and silverware from London Farm, fine art in the silent auction, and people dressed to the nines, for the annual high tea fundraiser Savour.
With music playing, about 100 people milled about during the Nov. 23 event. The place was tastefully grooving as attendees savoured the art for auction. Most bids started at half the painting’s value, as folks sipped the custom cocktails and then settled in for a chance to drink some of Nikaido’s tea while noshing on finger food from Ms. Tiffin that deliciously blended British high tea traditions with those from South Asia.
For those so inclined, Fuggles and Warlock beer was also on offer.
Gallery director Shaun Dacey said in opening the event, “We are here to celebration the Richmond Art Gallery Association. The work they do is so integral to what we’re about.”
He went on to highlight that funds raised from the event go to a host of options including children’s and schools programming. Dacey also pointed out that our art gallery has also created an art kit that Richmond teachers can book out for use in their school.
Dacey said “we often focus on the art but key to us is bringing people together.”
The dance music was provided by Caroline Arthur who also offers Crumpet, afternoon dance parties, and as Dacey said “for those of us getting a little older.”
Hosting the event, Sienna Blaze added total bling to the event and proved an able judge in both the best dressed and best fascinator categories.
While everyone had a graciously good time, the good feeling from helping fund our gallery was never far from anyone’s mind.

The Richmond Art Galley, located in the Cultural Centre beside the museum, archives and library at 7700 Minoru Gate, opens every day of the week at 10 a.m. with closing times varying between 5 and 6 p.m. Admission is free but donations are always welcome.
As gallery director Dacey says, “Every little bit helps.”
