Richmond’s arts community is being showcased again at the 12th annual Richmond Arts Awards.

The program is a partnership between the City of Richmond and the Richmond Arts Coalition. It aims to recognize community members who make significant contributions to local fields.

The award is seeking nominees in six categories:

  • Arts Education—an artist or organization who makes significant contributions to arts education;
  • Artistic Innovation—an artist or organization who innovates or brings new cultural experiences through their creative work;
  • Business and the Arts—a business that significantly supports a local artist or arts organization;
  • Cultural Leadership—an arts professional or organization who acts as a leader or steward of their discipline;
  • Volunteerism—an individual whose volunteer work makes a significant contribution to a local artist or arts organization; and
  • Youth Arts—an artist, aged 24 or younger, who shows promise and commitment to the local arts community. The winner of this category will receive a $200 cash prize, as with last year’s winner Shawn Chang.

The Richmond Arts Awards are open to all disciplines: visual, performing, literary, and culinary arts, as well as craft, environmental arts, and new media.

In April, three finalists will be named for each category. Winners will be announced at a City Hall ceremony, hosted by Mayor Malcolm Brodie, on Tuesday, May 12.

To submit an online nomination, visit www.richmond.ca/artsawards. Nominations are accepted until 5 p.m. on Friday, March 23.
