Childlike Faith Academy of Music and Theatre recently held a short video contest to provide children an opportunity to share their views of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The objective was for participants to share what they have learned during this time, what struggles they may have experienced and how they overcame them, and any encouragement they may have for others. As well, they had an opportunity to express their gratitude to frontline workers.

The three videos with the most likes on Facebook were awarded prizes.

First-place winner Erin Salvador, 10, was awarded a $300 VISA gift card and $100 academy scholarship.

Salvador’s mother, Haydee, thanked the academy for giving her daughter the opportunity to share her music while helping spread awareness of COVID-19.

“You made her so happy and proud. She wants to use her prize to buy a laptop for school use and to remember this accomplishment every time she uses it,” said Haydee.

Maria Huang, 8, won a $200 VISA gift card and $100 academy scholarship as the second-place winner.

Her mother, Cecilia Chow, said “We harvested a lot of love and support from people who watched the video.”

Samuel Hsiao, 13, and Justin Blais, 14, were recognized as third-place winners. Each received a $100 VISA gift card and $100 academy scholarship.

Samuel’s mother Yvonne Kwok said “This event allowed (both Samuel and Justin) to express kids’ points of view about COVID-19 in a way that allowed them to interview other kids and record in a video format. What an experience.”

After viewing all the entries, sponsor KMT Production decided to add a special award for the most meaningful message. The winner was 16-year-old Harrison Lam, who received a $50 CF SHOP! gift card and $50 academy scholarship.

His mother Nancy He said “My child learned how to focus on something positive during this pandemic crisis, by sharing our love with each other and encouraging each other.”
