Richmond Arts Coalition’s (RAC) former executive director has cast off the majority of his administrative duties to fully emerge himself in his passion as a multidisciplinary artist.
Instead of business suits and city hall meetings, you will find Rob Fillo with the tell-tale, paint-stained jeans of a working artist. Whether paint brush in hand, camera or guitar, he is fully engulfed in a vastly creative chapter of his life.
Being offered a subsidized studio spot in the Richmond Arts Village, located in the Capstan Village area, Fillo has taken full advantage of this inspiring opportunity. Living among a plethora of creative individuals in this budding arts district, there is a buzz of energy that is slowly percolating into a powerful arts movement. Actors, dancers, digital artists, painters, singers and so many more amazing people have flocked to this one particular area to make their artistic dreams come true and provide a cultural catalyst for arts growth in the city.
For Culture Days (Sept. 27 to 29), the Richmond Arts Village will have multiple studios and events that will be open to the public.
Fillo is unveiling Counterspace Studio & Gallery, a multi-disciplinary arts studio that creates a vibrant cornucopia of works including music, film, painting, stop motion animation and more. Counterspace produces multiple forms of professional work with Fillo at the helm as director. For more examples of his work, visit https://robfillo.com and visit the village during Culture Days to meet some of Richmond’s finest professional artists in a variety of disciplines. The Counterspace Studio & Gallery will feature an art sale, digital arts display and live music performances on Saturday, Sept. 28 from 7 to 10 p.m.
