Verna Holmes has reason to celebrate too after selling the recent $60 million winning Lotto Max ticket.
Holmes, who has partnered with the B.C. Lottery Corporation to sell lottery products for more than 35 years at her Seafair Smoke & Mixer in Richmond, received a record $60,000 in the lottery’s seller’s prize program. “It was an awesome feeling being told we were the retailer that sold the winning ticket. It was exciting, and I’m still over the moon,” says Holmes. “We’ve become very busy lately, and our customers have been congratulating us ever since.”
Holmes first started selling lottery tickets in 1984. She said that the $60,000 prize will support her family to live more comfortably. She also plans on taking her staff out for a nice dinner.
Designed to engage retailers in the excitement of lottery winners, the program awards retailers who sell a winning ticket with a percentage of the prize on tickets of over $10,000.
“We love to share in the excitement that comes along with not only winning the lottery – but also selling the winning ticket,” says Kevin Gass, vice-president of lottery gaming. “Our valued retail partners provide a critical role in supporting our players’ experiences and delivering sustained revenue to the Province of B.C., and I couldn’t be more proud to present the largest-ever seller’s prize in B.C. to Verna Holmes, a true pioneer of lottery in B.C.”
