The Richmond Sockeyes started 2022 strong, besting the Surrey Knights 6-2 on Jan. 1. This follows a successful December where they sported a 4-1-1-0 record.

The Sockeyes sit fourth in the Pacific Junior Hockey League’s Tom Shaw Conference, two points back of the White Rock Whalers with two games in hand. They have 120 goals for and 83 goals against and a 19-10-1-0 record.

Garrett Wicks continues to lead the Sockeyes in points with 19 goals and 20 assists through 30 games. Lukas Olson has 10 goals and 16 assists through 27 games and Easton Elmer 10 goals and 11 assists through 23 games.

Three defensemen have 17 points apiece: Jason Lin, Vincent Thrum and Gabriel Suessenbacher-Fu.

Among goaltenders, Marcus Cumberworth has a save percentage of 0.920, the second-best in the league, through 19 games. Jovan Kheleh has recorded just one loss in 12 games played.

The Sockeyes’ next two games on Jan. 5 and 8 were postponed, but their schedule for the rest of January remains full. Their next game is set for 7 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 13) against the Abbotsford Pilots at Minoru Arena.
