WBC to host Women’s U25, NextGen Camp in Richmond

Wheelchair Basketball Canada announced 13 athletes will participate in the Women’s Under-25 Camp in Richmond, B.C., from Aug. 15 to 19. Additionally, 16 athletes will participate in the NextGen Camp at the Richmond Olympic Oval.
The five-day U25 camp will include a mix of practices, off-court activities, and games against Japan’s U25 team, highlighted by the feature game on Friday, Aug. 18, which is free and open to the public. Tip-off for the feature game is 7 p.m. at the Richmond Olympic Oval.
“This camp will provide out High Performance staff an opportunity to evaluate the athletes before making final roster decisions for the Women’s U25 team ahead of the World Championship,” said Jeff Dunbrack, Wheelchair Basketball Canada High Performance director. “The NextGen Camp is a chance for WBC staff to identify NextGen athletes and future athletes for the Women’s Under-25 program and Men’s Under-23 team.”
The 2023 IWBF Women’s World Championship will take place in Bangkok, Thailand, from Oct. 3 to 9, 2023.
“We are excited to host the Japanese team in Canada,” said Marni Abbott-Peter, Women’s U25 Head Coach. “Also, having the NextGen athletes to train and compete against will give us some great reps in our preparations for the U25 World Championships in October.”
