Keep the holiday spirit going into the New Year by bringing your Christmas tree, and a donation, to the Richmond Firefighters Association’s annual chipping event Jan. 6 and 7 at Garry Point Park.

The event, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, is just one of the ways to support fire prevention, reduce waste and safely dispose of your tree.

The City of Richmond also offers other recycling options, including green cart collection or dropping your tree off at either the recycling depot or Ecowaste Industries.

Those using green cart service are reminded to cut up, bundle the pieces to a maximum of three feet by two feet and four inches in diameter, and place the tree at the curbside on their regular collection day.

The recycling depot, located at 5555 Lynas Lane, will accept trees between 9 a.m. and 6:15 p.m. Wednesday to Sunday. It will be closed on Mondays, Tuesdays and statutory holidays.

Ecowaste is located at 15111 Williams Rd. Call 604-277-1410 or visit www.ecowaste.com for hours.
