Affordable fun in Richmond
Ever wanted to try out some healthy fun but money got in the
way? Because it is Move for Health
week, citizens of Richmond can gorge themselves on various healthy activities
at little or no cost.
May 29 to June 3, Monday through Saturday next week the City of
Richmond’s facilities will offer over 55 different no cost and low cost
activities. The fun ranges from
Yoga Parent and Tot classes, outdoor workouts, tai chi, fitness workshops and
Toonie skating.
According to Kim Decker with the City of Richmond, “The Canadian
Physical Activity Guidelines recommend 150 minutes of activity per week for
adults and 60 minutes for children and youth. Other key healthy active living
indicators include daily walking of 30 minutes, eating over five
fruits/vegetables, connecting with nature and a sense of belonging/community
connectedness.”
If you would like a chance for a healthy walk with the mayor, meet
at City Hall Plaza Wednesday, May 31, at 12:10 pm for a walk around Minoru
Track with Malcom Brodie for the annual Walk with the Mayor Event.
“To have a long and healthy life we all need to keep active,” said
Mayor Brodie. “I invite everyone to join with me in trying some of the many
activities offered locally for Move for Health Week and then to continue being
active for an ongoing healthy lifestyle.”
Thanks to the City of Richmond’s support for Move for Health Week,
we can all try out a host of healthy fun. It might just whet your appetite for
an even healthier lifestyle.
