Published 12:00 PDT, Fri May 19, 2017
Gateway Theatre hosts the kick-off extravaganza to Seniors Week on Monday, June 5 at 10 a.m.
The bad news is you have to have a ticket. The good news? They are free.
You have three options:
• online go to richmond.ca/register
• by phone at 604-276-4300 Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm
• in person at any City of Richmond community facility. Please quote course number #2027588 when registering.
Transportation is also available for a small fee.
The line-up for the kick-off includes local musicians, comedian Mavis Pickett as well as story-teller and musician, Rick Scott.
“We are proud to present a fantastic line-up of Canadian talent at the Seniors Week opening celebration and in suitable fashion for Canada’s 150 birthday,” says Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “Events like this promote social connectedness and increase a sense of belonging in Richmond’s community members.”
Mavis Pickett started her career in comedy to cope with grief. Since then, she has appeared as a “senior comic” on local and national media. Now, she’s gracing the Gateway stage for Richmond seniors.
Rick Scott, long-known as an actor-musician in Vancouver, has travelled the world with Pied Pumpkin and solo performances. His humour, wisdom and song-writing turn any celebration fun.
Seniors Week runs Monday, June 5 through Sunday, June 11 and includes more than 20 activities, programs and events throughout Richmond.
For a detailed list of things to do, pick up a Seniors Week brochure from any Richmond community centre or visit richmond.ca/seniorsweek.
Translated versions are available in Chinese and Punjabi at most community centres and online.
