Don’t dismiss your vegetables.

A vital part of any healthy diet—raw or cooked—they play a critical role in nutrition, being low in fats and carbohydrates and high in vitamins, minerals and dietary fibre.

And gardeners agree, they’re fun and rewarding to grow.

If you’re thinking about growing some vegetables this year, but aren’t sure where to start, Richmond Sharing Farm is happy to pass along some tips to help you get started.

The non-profit society is putting on three online workshops over the next few months, two focusing on tomatoes.

“The tomato series will take you through all the steps to maximize your yummy tomato yield,” says Sarah Drewery, executive director of the Richmond Sharing Farm.

Part one of Tomatoes 101 is set for 7 p.m. tomorrow night (March 18). Each segment is one hour. Register now at www.eventbrite.ca/e/144809760893.

Part two of the hour-long segments also begins at 7 p.m. May 20. Register at www.eventbrite.ca/e/144812655551.

For those who'd rather grow on their kitchen counter, Drewery says they also have a microgreens class.

How to Grow Microgreens will be offered April 15 from 7 to 8 p.m. Register at www.eventbrite.ca/e/144811169105.

All the classes are by donation. Donations will go to the Richmond Sharing Farm to help grow food to donate to the Richmond Food Bank.
