COVID-19 hospitalizations reach all-time high in B.C.

A record 397 people are currently hospitalized in B.C. with COVID-19, topping the previous high of 381 established in January.
Of those in hospital, 120 are in intensive care.
B.C. health authorities also reported 1,168 new cases of COVID-19 today. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 114,870 cases.
Of the new cases, 341 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 632 in the Fraser Health region, 64 in the Island Health region, 105 in the Interior Health region and 26 in the Northern Health region.
There are 9,821 active cases of COVID-19 and a further 16,304 people are under active public health monitoring.
Health authorities did not provide an update on cases that are variants of concern today.
To date, 1,190,832 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca-SII COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C., 87,820 of which are second doses.
Sadly, there were six new virus-related deaths reported today, bringing that total to 1,521.
Active outbreaks continue at seven long-term care, assisted living and independent living facilities and five acute care facilities.
“We are pleased to see today's Health Canada assessment and decision on the AstraZeneca vaccine. We've been following this closely, and we await the recommendations from the National Advisory Council on Immunization to determine how to best use this vaccine going forward to further enhance our protection,” said health officials in a statement.
