B.C. reports four-week high in new COVID-19 cases

B.C. health authorities reported 76 new cases of COVID-19 today, the highest since June 23. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 148,563 cases.
Despite this, the province also marked a positive milestone: 80 per cent of all eligible British Columbians aged 12 and up have received their first dose of vaccine, and 81 per cent of adults in the province. In addition, 57.8 per cent of adults and 54.4 per cent of those aged 12 and older have received two doses.
To date, 6,233,656 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 2,519,686 of those are second doses.
Of today’s new cases, nine are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 27 in the Fraser Health region, three in the Island Health region, 37 in the Interior Health region, none in the Northern Health region and no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.
There are 692 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. and 50 of those people are hospitalized, 12 of whom are in intensive care.
There were no new virus-related deaths reported today.
Active outbreaks continue at one long-term care facility and one acute care facility.
