B.C. health authorities reported 89 new cases of COVID-19 today, the highest since June 20. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 148,730 cases.

A release from the province notes that the numbers of total and new cases are provisional due to a delayed data refresh. They will be verified once confirmed.

The seven-day rolling average is now 63, up from 58 yesterday. One week ago, the seven-day average was 42.

Of the new cases, 18 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 30 in the Fraser Health region, three in the Island Health region, 37 in the Interior Health region, one in the Northern Health region and no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.

There are 781 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C.—the highest since June 30—and 53 of those people are hospitalized, 15 of whom are in intensive care.

To date, 6,361,627 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 2,636,377 of those are second doses.

This means that 81.2 per cent of adults and 80.2 per cent of people aged 12 and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 60.2 per cent of adults and 56.9 per cent of those aged 12 and older have received two doses.

There were no new virus-related deaths reported today.

Active outbreaks continue at one long-term care facility and one acute care facility.
