Outbreaks remain high in B.C.

Two new school outbreaks in the Interior Health region were added to the 37 active healthcare outbreaks today, according to B.C. health officials.
In a news release, officials noted one new healthcare facility outbreak and declared one over. Active outbreaks continue at 16 long-term care facilities, 12 assisted or independent living facilities and nine acute care facilities.
The two school outbreaks were both at Christian schools—one in Salmon Arm and one in Vernon.
B.C. health authorities reported 549 new cases of COVID-19 today, bringing the cumulative total to 208,265 cases since the pandemic began.
Of the new cases, 78 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 184 in the Fraser Health region, 73 in the Island Health region, 110 in the Interior Health region, 102 in the Northern Health region and two new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.
There are 4,483 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. and 441 of those people are hospitalized, 129 of whom are in intensive care.
To date, 8,311,858 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 3,973,745 of those are second doses.
This means that 90.6 per cent of adults and 90.2 per cent of people aged 12 and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 86.3 per cent of adults and 85.7 per cent of those aged 12 and older have received two doses.
Sadly, there was one new virus-related death reported today, bringing that total to 2,201. The person who died lived in the Northern Health region.
From Oct. 28 to Nov. 3, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 65.3 per cent of cases.
From Oct. 21 to Nov. 3, they accounted for 71.1 per cent of hospitalizations.
