Weekend COVID-19 case count up slightly

B.C. health authorities reported 1,438 new cases of COVID-19 since Friday—an increase of 68 from last weekend’s three-day count. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 209,703 cases.
Of the new cases, 155 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 575 in the Fraser Health region, 221 in the Island Health region, 321 in the Interior Health region, 166 in the Northern Health region and no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.
There are 4,282 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. and 407 of those people are hospitalized, 121 of whom are in intensive care.
To date, 8,346,993 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 3,986,497 of those are second doses.
This means that 90.7 per cent of adults and 90.3 per cent of people aged 12 and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 86.6 per cent of adults and 86.0 per cent of those aged 12 and older have received two doses.
Sadly, there were 17 new virus-related deaths reported since Friday, bringing that total to 2,218. Of those who died, two lived in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, five in the Fraser Health region, three in the Island Health region, one in the Interior Health region and six in the Northern Health region.
Health authorities reported three new healthcare facility outbreaks and declared seven over. Active outbreaks continue at 14 long-term care facilities, 10 assisted or independent living facilities and nine acute care facilities.
An outbreak was also declared at Millar College of the Bible, a post-secondary institution in Tappen, in the Interior Health region.
From Oct. 29 to Nov. 4, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 65.5 per cent of cases.
From Oct. 22 to Nov. 4, they accounted for 70.7 per cent of hospitalizations.
