As someone who lives with epilepsy, Marika Lopez knows what it’s like to deal with the unpredictability of an underlying medical condition.
And ever since she started Seizure Soldiers as a high school student a few years ago, in a quest to further enlighten the public about the brain disorder, she’s also been on a mission to support those afflicted.
The Richmondite’s latest effort has her dedicating considerable time and energy to hosting another fundraiser—in support of the Defeating Epilepsy Foundation. November is Epilepsy Awareness Month in the United States, and since becoming friends with the founder and chief executive officer of the organization, she’s felt compelled to do what she can to lend a hand.
“I want to give back to her and the organization for doing a great job helping people with epilepsy in the States,” she says. “My goal is to raise $350 to 400.”
To donate, visit defeatingepilepsy.org, click on the “Donate” tab and write “Seizure Soldier” in the notes.
The fundraiser is live through Nov. 30.
