COVID-19 in B.C. today: 1,117 cases, no deaths

B.C. health officials reported 1,117 new cases of COVID-19 today. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 335,042 cases.

Of the new cases, 180 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 189 in the Fraser Health region, 175 in the Island Health region, 376 in the Interior Health region, 192 in the Northern Health region, and five new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.

There are 24,372 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. and 986 COVID-positive individuals are in hospital, 146 of whom are in intensive care. 

To date, 10,993,192 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Pfizer Pediatric COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 4,221,630 of those are second doses and 2,327,036 are third doses. 

This means that 93.4 per cent of adults, 93 per cent of people aged 12 and older, and 90.3 per cent of people aged five and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 90.8 per cent of adults, 90.4 per cent of those aged 12 and older, and 84.7 per cent of those aged five and older have received two doses; 53.3 per cent of adults and 50.2 per cent of those aged 12-plus have received three doses.

There were no new COVID-related deaths reported today for the first time in a month.

Health authorities reported one new health-care facility outbreak and declared three over. Active outbreaks continue at 49 long-term care facilities, two assisted or independent living facilities, and four acute care facilities.

From Jan. 31 to Feb. 6, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 23.9 per cent of cases.
From Jan. 24 to Feb. 6, they accounted for 31.3 per cent of hospitalizations.

• Partially vaccinated: 408 (4.5 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 6,923 (76.1 per cent)

• Not vaccinated: 287 (26.3 per cent)

• Partially vaccinated: 54 (five per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 750 (68.7 per cent)

Past week, cases per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Jan. 31 to Feb. 6)

• Not vaccinated: 375.7

• Partially vaccinated: 138.2

• Fully vaccinated: 177.2

Past two weeks, cases hospitalized per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Jan. 24 to Feb. 6)

• Not vaccinated: 77.1

• Partially vaccinated: 44.3

• Fully vaccinated: 16.0
