The Richmond Food Bank has received about $33,000 towards food for people in need following the conclusion of a month-long Lunar New Year event at Lansdowne Centre.
The event wrapped up on Feb. 15 with 168 kilograms (370 pounds) of non-perishable foods donated by T&T Supermarket. An additional $5,479 in cash was raised.
In times of pandemic and economic uncertainty, food security is more important than ever. Lansdowne Centre continues with the tradition of giving back to the community while introducing the first-ever Tiger guessing contest to support the Richmond Food Bank.
“I'm proud to announce we were able to donate $5,479 for the Richmond Food Bank raised during the Lunar New Year celebration at Lansdowne Centre,” says the mall’s marketing manager Bronwyn Bailey. “So humbled by the generosity of the Richmond community, and the incredible work of community groups like the Richmond Food Bank to support our neighbours who need a little help, especially in these tough times.”
The winner who guessed the weight of the packaged food was spot on and will win $388 in gift cards.
Shoppers enjoyed encountering the giant tiger, photo- and selfie-taking at the peach orchard, and making a wish at the wishing wall to take in the festivities.
