B.C. reports 442 new COVID-19 cases, 10 deaths

B.C. health officials reported 442 new cases of COVID-19 today. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 349,213 cases.

Of the new cases, 69 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 111 in the Fraser Health region, 98 in the Island Health region, 105 in the Interior Health region, 59 in the Northern Health region, and no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.

There are 517 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19 and 73 are in intensive care.

To date, 11,350,297 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Pfizer Pediatric COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 4,302,285 of those are second doses and 2,587,716 are third doses. 

This means that 93.6 per cent of adults, 93.3 per cent of people aged 12 and older, and 90.6 per cent of people aged five and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 91.2 per cent of adults, 90.7 per cent of those aged 12 and older, and 86.3 per cent of those aged five and older have received two doses; 57.8 per cent of adults and 55.8 per cent of those aged 12-plus have received three doses.

Sadly, there were 10 new COVID-related deaths reported today, bringing that total to 2,883. Of those who died, four lived in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, two in the Fraser Health region, two in the Interior Health region, and two in the Northern Health region.

Health authorities reported five new health-care facility outbreaks and declared 11 over. Active outbreaks continue at 19 long-term care facilities, one assisted or independent living facility, and one acute care facility.

From Feb. 22 to 28, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 19.7 per cent of cases. From Feb. 15 to 28, they accounted for 34.6 per cent of hospitalizations.

• Partially vaccinated: 114 (3.7 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 2,479 (80.3 per cent)

• Not vaccinated: 137 (29.4 per cent)

• Partially vaccinated: 24 (5.2 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 305 (65.4 per cent)

Past week, cases per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Feb. 22 to 28)

• Not vaccinated: 118.6

• Partially vaccinated: 60.3

• Fully vaccinated: 54.0

Past two weeks, cases hospitalized per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Feb. 15 to 28)

• Not vaccinated: 36.9

• Partially vaccinated: 22.0

• Fully vaccinated: 6.5
