B.C. reports 240 COVID-19 cases, seven deaths

B.C. health officials reported 240 new cases of COVID-19 today. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 353,379 cases.
Of the new cases, 52 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 47 in the Fraser Health region, 41 in the Island Health region, 66 in the Interior Health region, 34 in the Northern Health region, and no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.
Cases in Richmond decreased slightly last week (March 6 to 12), according to the latest local data from the B.C. Centre for Disease Control. There were 46 cases compared to 50 the previous week (Feb. 27 to March 5).
There are 298 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19 and 49 are in intensive care.
To date, 11,429,442 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Pfizer Pediatric COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 4,330,237 of those are second doses and 2,633,652 are third doses.
This means that 93.7 per cent of adults, 93.4 per cent of people aged 12 and older, and 90.8 per cent of people aged five and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 91.3 per cent of adults, 90.9 per cent of those aged 12 and older, and 86.9 per cent of those aged five and older have received two doses; 58.7 per cent of adults and 56.8 per cent of those aged 12-plus have received three doses.
Sadly, there were seven new COVID-related deaths reported today, bringing that total to 2,960. Of those who died, one lived in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, three in the Fraser Health region, one in the Island Health region, and two in the Northern Health region.
Health authorities reported one health-care facility outbreak over. Active outbreaks continue at seven long-term care facilities and one acute care facility.
From March 9 to 15, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 16.5 per cent of cases. From March 2 to 15, they accounted for 27.6 per cent of hospitalizations.
