B.C. reports 249 new COVID-19 cases, two deaths

B.C. health officials reported 249 new cases of COVID-19 today. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 356,501 cases.

Of the new cases, 55 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 46 in the Fraser Health region, 56 in the Island Health region, 71 in the Interior Health region, 21 in the Northern Health region, and no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.

There are 281 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19 and 42 are in intensive care.

To date, 11,491,137 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Pfizer Pediatric COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 4,352,964 of those are second doses and 2,667,279 are third doses. 

This means that 93.8 per cent of adults, 93.5 per cent of people aged 12 and older, and 90.8 per cent of people aged five and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 91.5 per cent of adults, 91.1 per cent of those aged 12 and older, and 87.3 per cent of those aged five and older have received two doses; 59.3 per cent of adults and 57.5 per cent of those aged 12-plus have received three doses.

Sadly, there were two new COVID-related deaths reported today, bringing that total to 2,998. Both of the people who died lived in the Fraser Health region.

Health authorities reported two new health-care facility outbreaks. Active outbreaks continue at seven long-term care facilities, one acute care facility, and one complex care facility.

From March 23 to 29, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 17.3 per cent of cases and from March 16 to 29 they accounted for 21.9 per cent of hospitalizations.

• Not vaccinated: 256 (15.9 per cent)

• Partially vaccinated: 24 (1.4 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 1,334 (82.7 per cent)

Past two weeks cases hospitalized (March 16 to 29)—Total 370

• Not vaccinated: 69 (18.7 per cent)

• Partially vaccinated: 12 (3.2 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 289 (78.1 per cent)

Past week, cases per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (March 23 to 29)

• Not vaccinated: 69.7

• Partially vaccinated: 15.7

• Fully vaccinated: 28.7

Past two weeks, cases hospitalized per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (March 16 to 29)

• Not vaccinated: 20.2

• Partially vaccinated: 11.4

• Fully vaccinated: 6.1
