Richmond children who need a flu or COVID-19 vaccine can walk into a clinic this weekend (Dec. 9, 10, and 11) as part of the provincial government's efforts to support people and families with children to get vaccinated before the holidays.

The Richmond COVID Pediatric Outreach Clinic (8100 Granville Ave.) is offering vaccines for children aged six months to 11 years, as well as children aged six months to 17 years with special needs such as sensory issues, autism, severe anxiety, and needle phobias.

That clinic is open Dec. 9 to 11, Dec. 16 to 18, Dec. 22 and 23, and Dec. 29 and 30 from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m.

There are also a number of other clinics in nearby cities, with information available at vch.ca/covid-19/covid-19-vaccine#clinics for Vancouver Coastal Health clinics or fraserhealth.ca/health-topics-a-to-z/immunizations/flu-shots/getting-your-flu-shot#.Y5KHCOzMJp- for Fraser Health clinics.

There is no need to call ahead or make an appointment. People can simply show up with their BC Services Card. If an appointment is preferred, one can be made through the Get Vaccinated system.

Influenza and COVID-19 immunizations are free for everyone six months and older. Vaccination is safe; any side-effects are typically very mild and go away on their own within a few days.
