Earlier this month, Richmond RCMP honoured its volunteers with a gala dinner event at the Executive Hotel Vancouver Airport.
Mayor Malcolm Brodie and Richmond RCMP officer in charge Chief Supt. Dave Chauhan were on hand for the special occasion. Also in attendance were the other members of Richmond RCMP’s senior management team and members of Richmond RCMP’s community engagement team. In all, nearly 90 people attended the event.
During his speech at the event, Brodie stressed the importance of volunteering, and its value to both policing and the community at large.
“Richmond remains one of the safest cities in the region and we can thank the many volunteers who serve and support our community through the Richmond RCMP detachment for playing an important role in that,” said Brodie. “Whether it be foot, vehicle, and bike patrols; operating Speed Watch, distracted driver, and pedestrian safety initiatives; or assisting at large city events, the involvement of the RCMP volunteers makes our city a safer and more inclusive community.”
Chauhan said: “The COVID-19 pandemic has brought significant challenges over the past few years, especially for our volunteer operations. We are very fortunate to have such a large group of dedicated volunteers. It is important that we celebrate their resilience and recognize their contributions to policing and public safety in our community.”
Despite the impact of the pandemic, which paused many volunteer initiatives for more than a year, Richmond RCMP volunteers have provided more than 18,000 hours of service to the community since 2019.
