Richmond RCMP is urgently wanting to speak with anyone who may have witnessed two random assaults that occurred on Tuesday morning (Feb. 14) along Buswell Street in the downtown core.

Mid-morning, a police officer was flagged down by a bystander in the 6400 block of Buswell Street (between Cook and Saba roads) after she discovered a woman lying on the sidewalk. First aid was provided to the woman, and she was subsequently transported to hospital by Emergency Health Services. At the time, investigators believed this incident to be a medical emergency of some sort.

Subsequently, a second woman has come forward to police to report that she had been assaulted by an unknown man around the same time that day, as she was walking along the sidewalk in the same location.

Investigators with Richmond RCMP’s serious crime unit now believe these two incidents are related.

Anyone who may have witnessed these assaults, or who has information or dash-cam video from the area on that morning, is asked to call Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212 and quote file number 2023-4816. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8744(TIPS) or visit solvecrime.ca.
