Five hundred stuffed pandas have taken over Richmond’s Aberdeen Centre for the summer.

Transformed into a bamboo oasis, the central atrium also plays home to nine origami panda sculptures ranging from one metre to three metres in height. These hand-made masterpieces peek out from between the greenery, creating a magical place for children and adults alike.

July 3 to 14, Hong Kong artist Mitchell Hung offers shoppers a chance to watch him as he paints en plaine air, on the spot painting created right before your eyes. Hung blends traditional Chinese ink painting with western influences. The resulting paintings will be on display until September 3 when they, the forest and the pandas depart. All pandas then head to the Richmond Christmas Fund where they will become Christmas gifts. Aberdeen Centre encourages viewers to adopt one of the pandas to support the Richmond Christmas Fund so the gift of pandas will continue long after summer memories fade.
