After a relatively low case count yesterday, BC is reporting 161 new cases of COVID-19 today.

Health officials said two of the new cases are epidemiologically linked. There have been 9,381 cases across the province since the pandemic began. There are 1,302 active cases and 3,114 people are under active public health monitoring as a result of identified exposure to known cases.

Richmond recorded 153 cases of the virus as of the end of August, and an additional 118 in September alone. These numbers reflect the growing case count province wide.

The number of people in hospital has decreased by six to 63. Sixteen of those people are in intensive care. Sadly, there were three new virus-related deaths for a total of 238.

There was one new healthcare facility outbreak at Surrey Memorial Hospital and the outbreaks at Yaletown House and Peach Arch Hospital have been declared over. In total, 14 longterm care or assisted living facilities and three acute care facilities have active outbreaks.

There were no new community or school outbreaks, although there continue to be exposure events around the province.

Health officials said despite the uncertainty and stress that has come with the pandemic, there are some elements of protection that are in our control. Using layers of protection reduces risks, helps to break the chains of transmission and keeps the virus under control, they added.
