Steveston Athletics made the most of their home-field advantage last weekend, capping a stellar season on the softball diamond Sunday by winning the provincial Senior B Women’s Championship at Steveston-London Park.

Ace pitcher Brianna Farrall started Sunday’s final against the South Surrey-White Rock Thunder before making way for reliever Lisa Andrijaczyn and finally Karen Wright to close out the victory.

The A’s were a powerhouse throughout the tournament, systematically eliminating Fleetwood, Richmond Islanders, Lakehill Blazers of Victoria, North Shore Avalanche and East Kootenay Extreme on their way to the title game.

Last week, a team representing Richmond Girls’ Softball finished fourth in the Intermediate A provincials. It was tough sledding for the locals, which lost four games by a combined five runs.

Richmond Islanders 2000 will go into the 2018 U19 Women’s Canadian Fastpitch Championship Aug. 6 to 12 in Surrey as the B.C. No. 2 seed following a second-place finish at the provincials last weekend in Victoria.

Richmond Islanders 12B also enjoyed significant success recently, winning bronze medals as third-place finishers at the provincial championships held July 6 to 8 in Richmond.
