City councillors appear to support extending Richmond’s temporary patio program for an extra year.
The program, first introduced in May in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, was discussed at this week’s general purposes committee meeting. Councillors were unanimously in favour of the extension, which will see the program extended until Oct. 31, 2021. The program will also be expanded to consider applications that include temporary coverings or other accessories, including heaters, necessary to operate patios in cold or wet weather.
The program was supported throughout its implementation by councillors, although did not prove to be as popular as anticipated, with fewer than 15 businesses taking advantage of the temporary patio offering. All permits issued were on private property, staff confirmed at the committee meeting.
