BC’s Finance Minister Carole James says the April Labour Force Survey provides a clear picture of the severe impacts COVID-19 has had on the economy, in BC and throughout Canada.

Every sector of the BC economy has hit, leaving many families struggling, James says. The province’s COVID-19 Action Plan aims to support people and businesses, and more than $400,000 people were approved to receive the $1,000 BC Emergency Benefit for Workers.

James also extended gratitude to provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and her team, saying BC has been lauded for its response to the pandemic.

“The personal and economic pain that COVID-19 has caused around the world is unprecedented in our lifetime, but there is light at the end of the tunnel,” says James.

“Recognizing our province’s strong economic fundamentals, we are working to build a robust rebound for BC and with everyone’s continued co-operation and confidence, we will get there.”
