Richmond city councillors will send a letter to federal and provincial politicians stating its opposition to the proposed Roberts Bank Terminal 2 Expansion Project.

The project is a proposed marine container terminal in Delta. Richmond councillors expressed concern about the potential environmental impacts of the project at this week’s general purposes committee meeting.

“Now is the time to come out strongly against this project,” said Coun. Carol Day.

Several councillors expressed an interest in reinstating an organization like FREMP—the Fraser River Estuary Management Project, dismantled in 2013.

“If we don’t take a stand now, the next time around it’ll be too late,” said Coun. Harold Steves.

Coun. Bill McNulty said the letters should also be sent to the leaders of the opposition parties and appropriate MPs and MLAs, as well as Delta city council.
