Passengers on some WestJet flights departing from Vancouver International Airport will be part of a pilot COVID-19 testing project launching this fall.
The project supports the industry’s efforts to uphold safety standards and help those who need to travel feel more confident. It also aims to complement existing research and data about communicable diseases.
WestJet and the airport (YVR) are working with government and health authorities to pass on the data they collect, as well as partnering with academia to take a science-based approach. Trial results will be used to inform further processes and evolve safety measures.
Air travel has been significantly hit by the pandemic, and health screening will likely look different going forward. Through their new pilot project, YVR and WestJet are aiming to collect knowledge and data that will help the industry in the future.
