Low income individuals in Richmond will soon have access to more community resources.

Richmond is one of 54 local governments throughout BC to receive funding from a provincial poverty reduction grant. The city has received $25,000 of a total $1.4 million in grants.

The project will support low income people in the Blundell, Broadmoor, City Centre and Thompson areas, says city spokesperson Clay Adams.

“The 2016 census identified these four communities as having a high percentage of residents with low income, and the funds provided through the grant will help us create ways to improve access to services as well as increase social inclusion for those residents,” he adds.

The city will assemble a steering committee of individuals with lived experience, as well as representatives from key community stakeholders.

“Poverty is something all communities face despite not often being seen,” says Adams.
