One of the most decorated female hockey
players in history will be hosting a camp this summer at the North Shore Winter Club.
Olympic gold medallist and Hockey Hall of
Fame member Cammi Granato will oversee the one-week camp bearing her name Aug.
12 to 16. The camp is designed to deliver a dynamic week of on-ice skill
training and leadership development to help inspire the next generation of fame
hockey players.
“The goal of our hockey school is to build
confidence in young women and to empower them to be leaders both on and off the
ice, in addition to enhancing their fundamental skills. I can’t wait to get on
the ice with players from across British Columbia this summer,” said Granato.
Granato captained the U.S. women’s hockey
team to its inaugural Olympic gold and led the national team to a remarkable
nine world championship medals. In addition to her Hall of Fame career, she has
been widely regarded for her work in inspiring and developing the next
generation of women hockey players including many from the U.S. Olympic
Women's Hockey team that won a gold medal in 2018.
“We are proud to host the Cammi Granato
Hockey School. Cammi is a wonderful role model for young players and this camp
will have a lasting impact on everyone who participates,” said Aaron Wilbur,
Director of Hockey at the North Shore Winter Club. “The North Shore Winter
Club is committed to supporting the growth of female hockey—both at our club
and across the province. We are thrilled to offer such an inspirational
experience for these young athletes.”
Team USA Olympic gold medallist Hillary
Knight, a former student of the Cammi Granato Hockey School, says “When I was
young I had role models who were male, because we looked up to NHL players, and
I had Cammi Granato.”
Adds Kelly Stack, a three-time winner of the
Cammi Granato Award presented to the top player in NCAA’s Hockey East
Conference, says of Granato “she’s arguably the best women’s hockey player to
ever play the game.”
Granato will be joined at the North Shore
camp by a group of top NCAA and U Sports coaches and trainers.
