The Connaught Skating Club is known for being a step ahead, and thinking outside the box.

Now, in the midst of challenging times, they’ve introduced another original idea: “COVID captains.”

Since returning to training at the Richmond Olympic Oval and Richmond Ice Centre, upwards of a dozen parents are helping to make the process safe and secure for all participants, says Keegan Murphy, director of skating programs at the Richmond-based club.

“They help each group of skaters enter and exit the training facility,” Murphy explained of the parent volunteers.

The volunteers also help with cleaning and sanitization of doors and other high-touch surfaces.
