Hope on the horizon for local swimmers

It will be a while yet before the pool at Minoru Centre for Active Living is ready for use.
But construction is progressing.
Right now, the pool’s concrete slab base is being laid by BC-based Omicron Construction.
“(It) is expected to open to the public this fall as previously announced,” said city spokesperson Clay Adams.
“Once the slab has cured and dried to the required moisture level, a waterproof membrane will be installed and tiling of the lap pool will commence in the coming weeks.”
Adams said repairs to the pool are covered under construction insurance that was activated following an extensive investigation that identified poor workmanship as the cause of the pool failure. He said the firm responsible for managing the original construction, Stuart Olson, is in the process of leaving the site.
Minoru Centre for Active Living includes a fitness centre, a two-storey seniors’ centre, sport programming and support space, as well as a full-service cafeteria and bistro, a commercial kitchen, and three outdoor public plazas.
The city plans to fully open the Minoru Centre for Active Living to the public this fall.
